Sitting Rising Test

This is a video challenge that we took part in 2018. Sit. Stand. Repeat. This little trick - a deceptively simple measure of flexibility and strength - can predict who will live longer and whose lives will be cut short, according to a study by Brazilian physician Claudio Gil Araujo. He uses the test with athletes, but he also uses it to lay out the stakes with patients: To live longer, they mus...

This is a demonstration of the twenty aikijō no suburi formulated by Morihiro Saito. The suburi represent core movements of the aikijō system practiced in Ueshiba O-Sensei's Iwama Dōjō. These short solo exercises will help you to develop confident handling of the jō or short staff. These movements commonly appear in partner practice so it is good to be well acquainted with them. As a solo pract...

Very useful video. Thank you.
Thank you very much for this video 🙏
I’m currently trying to build on my Jo foundation, and this has been such a helpful resource to drill the basics. Thank you so much!
all looks interesting, what is the staff made off that is does not brake easy, what happen if the oponent is not air, but a person grabing the staff, how do you prevent a grab?
The jō (staff) is made of Japanese white oak. It is quite resilient and can weather quite strong impacts but this is greatly improved by correct technique. These exercises are some of the basic skills of manipulating the jō, so they are, as you write, just movements in the air. Partnered practice better informs this practice. There are a series of techniques for dealing with an opponent grabbing the jō (jōnage waza) but the best thing, of course, would be to avoid this altogether.
Very good I will use it 🙇♂️🙏
Fine form, serene spirit, disciplined deflection. Now I shall defend my temple properly.
Nice sir
Je suis du 3ème âge et ces exercices Vont m'aider à améliorer ma posture. Merci.
Très bonne démonstration avec un excellent rythme, idéal pour un bon apprentissage. Merci.
Where is the Shomenuchi (downward strike to the head). Uke just holds out his arm out limply. At least attempt to make it look like it has some practical application against an attack. Here you go . . . . ruclips.net/video/IYuWQen5NjQ/видео.html
The techniques in this channel belong to iwama-ryu aikido. The shomen uchi in iwama-ryu is initiated by the "defender" as a way to draw (force) out the arm of the "attacker". It is foundamentally different from the aikikai (hombu) style shomen uchi techniques. ruclips.net/video/wiXbgt5yBLs/видео.htmlsi=lQc0YfPq_5udRSyZ
@@altyee Yeah but still it seems like menuchi shomen as I learn shout be like cut and menuchi is strike ... but different style fine with me
Excellent. I use a 40in x 1 in Stainless Steel Round bar. Weighs about 35 lbs. Hell of a workout and just strengthen the whole upper body. The wooded Ken just flashes. And I use a 5ftx 1 in Steel Bar for Jo work. Definatly feel every muscle after that workout. I’m from Pittsburgh. Love my Steel.
Awesome video! I will probably spend the rest of this year watching and practicing these moves!
Where did you learn it, dilettante.
congratulations, the best video with stick. demonstrates the techniques individually, well demonstrated. thanks.
Thanks ❤️
Domo arigatô gozaimashita 🙏

Hello Sensei! I hope this finds you well. Did you happen to teach in Australia quite some time ago?
Kia ora! I've assisted Peter Ralston when he taught in Sydney some 10 years back but only trained aikidō in Australia, not taught there
@@AikidoAuckland I see, thank you for answering. I used train under Kevin Rees in Newcastle (Ozstraya) and thought you might of been his original sensei. It's been quite a while so the memory is hazy although when I saw your name I thought it might be you. Anyway stay safe and thank you for the great videos. I've never seen weapons done as clearly as you have so really appreciate the effort and sharing it with us all. Haere rā!
@@snuffyupagus2216 no worries. Thank you for the positive feedback, I'm really pleased the videos are useful

Yes, editing error. Thanks for paying close attention. 19 - Hidari nagare gaeshi uchi (左流れ返し打ち), 20 - Migi nagare gaeshi tsuki (右流れ返し突き)
Hi‼️‼️
Los nombres de los hidari están invertidos
Yes, an editing error well spotted. Names should be reversed for 19 and 20
This is awesome, thank you. Riai Wellington...
Muy mal, el uke tiene que atacar antes
Tenes razón se puede pulir un poco
👍🏾
Super, on voit beaucoup mieux la position des pieds et aussi celle des mains sur le Jo !
This content is undoubtedly priceless but as as someone barely initiated in the art I think a camera focusing on the footwork would be awesome. We appreciate you sir, thank you.
Domo😀 sensei .....
Thank you
Why does he seemingly have his hand above the Tsuba?
Conscientiousness of hand placement. On a bokken, normally the hilt portion is actually shorter than on something like a shinai, iaito, or a proper sword, so you would ideally have to place your hand just slightly higher than where the tsuba would sit if you put one on the bokken. Usually you would have your middle- or ring-finger rest where the tsuba would sit.
This is the essence of martial arts. Breaking it down to its simplicity. And it all moves from the underside of you feet. To the farthest end of your jo staff. And the pronunciation is as the word sounds.
Thank you for sharing this with us
That was great 👊
Osu Sensei! Rei
excellent exercise. thanks for your videos
Thank You very much for the wonderful and clean and sharp videos. Is it possible to add kumi Tachi for Bokken and Jyo. Also 13 jyo kata, please!
Looks like Nikkyo.
Exquisite video, exquisite execution. This is how all tutorial videos should look like - no shouting overlapping voices, no histrionic tones or enunciations, no heavy-metal music. Just pure simplicity. Thank you and please continue this wonderful work.
Best teacher🙏🏾hope someday can invite you to iwama - jakarta. Indonesia
